Dr. Richard W. (Rick) Murray will speak about Oceanography today and what’s happening at WHOI at the next gathering of the Woods Hole Woman’s Club. Dr. Murray is Deputy Director and Vice President for Science and Engineering at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He was a Professor of Earth and Environment at Boston University (BU) from 1992 – 2019. He served as Director, Division of Ocean Sciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF) from 2015-2018.
Dr. Murray’s research interests are in marine geochemistry, with an emphasis on sedimentary chemical records of climate change, volcanism, and tropical oceanographic processes, and in the chemistry of the subseafloor biosphere. A seagoing oceanographer, he has participated in many research cruises in various capacities around the globe.
The Club will meet at 11:30 am on Tuesday, October 11 at The Church of the Messiah Parish and Community Center, 16 Church Street in Woods Hole. Light refreshments will be served and those attending may bring a brown bag lunch if they wish. Windows will be open for ventilation and masks are encouraged for attendees when not eating or drinking.
